The year was 1972, Bob Devaney led his 13-0 Huskers into Miami on New Years day to play #2 Alabama. The Husker’s led by QB Jerry Tagge and Heisman trophy winner Johnny Rodgers defeated the Crimson tide 38 – 6, winning their second consecutive National Championship.
One glance at this beautiful tribute to Coach Bob Devaney, Jerry Tagge & Johnny Rodgers brings back memories of when the “Order began”. The two National Championships, the “Game of the Century” and of course “Man – Woman & Child did that put’em in the aisles”.
Jerry wanted to share this beautiful painting commemorating the 25-year anniversary of that magical season. He had a limited number of lithographs made of his painting to share with Husker fans. Still great friends with Coach Devaney, Jerry would take prints to Lincoln for Coach to sign. As Bob’s health was fading, Jerry would only take 25 prints to Bob. Bob looked forward to the time with Jerry as he signed the images, often times sharing memories of that amazing time.
Once completed, Jerry started developing a plan to promote the sale of the Husker Legends lithographs. As the project started to gain momentum, Coach Devaney’s health went into decline. On May 9, 1997, Coach Devaney passed away. This affected Jerry, Johnny and the entire Husker Nation. Jerry put the images in storage where they have been until now.
